Bull Terrier The Swing — after Jean-Honore Fragonard, 1767 | Tapestry

The Swing
after Jean-Honore Fragonard, 1767

The patron's original request was for a bishop to push the swing. Fragonard substituted an oblivious husband, and put the young admirer in the bushes exactly where he had been asked to put him.

The shoe is still airborne. It has been airborne since 1767.

After the original in the Wallace Collection.
