Napoleon Crossing the Alps

Napoleon refused to sit for it and crossed the Alps on a mule, not a rearing stallion. He told David that nobody knows whether portraits of great men resemble them, only that their genius lives.

The pose is inherited. The confidence appears to be genuine.
