Terra Plana, The Forbidden Atlas Plate I | Beach Towel

Terra Plana
The Forbidden Atlas, Plate I

The Flat World. In 1892 a Buffalo inventor patented a map of the world "as it is": flat, the North Pole at its center, the hours of the sun around the rim and Antarctica as a wall of ice.

This plate is that world, recovered.

From the archives of the Cheekenbocker Museum. One of six recovered plates. The aged parchment and the odd engraver's slip are part of the find.
