Bull Terrier The Hay Wain — after John Constable, 1821 | Tapestry

The Hay Wain
after John Constable, 1821

It failed to sell in London and was largely ignored, then won a gold medal in Paris three years later. Constable painted this same stretch of the Stour over and over; the cottage is still standing.

The cart has stopped mid-ford. There is no indication it intends to move.

After the original in the National Gallery, London.
