Bull Terrier The Card Players — after Paul Cezanne, c.1895 | Beach Towel

The Card Players
after Paul Cezanne, c.1895

Cezanne painted five versions, using farmhands from his family's estate as models rather than professionals. One of the five later sold for more than any painting had ever sold for.

The hand has not been played in a hundred and thirty years. Nobody has blinked either.

After the original in the Courtauld Gallery.
