Bull Terrier Starry Night — after Vincent van Gogh, 1889 | Mug

Starry Night
after Vincent van Gogh, 1889

Van Gogh painted this from a barred window of the asylum at Saint-Remy, before sunrise, largely from memory. The village below is not there in life. He considered the whole thing a failure.

The cypress still reaches. The sky still turns. The dog has no opinion on any of it.

After the original in the Museum of Modern Art.
