Bull Terrier Mona Lisa — after Leonardo da Vinci, c.1503 | Blanket

Mona Lisa
after Leonardo da Vinci, c.1503

Leonardo worked on this portrait for some sixteen years and never delivered it to the man who commissioned it. He took it to France instead, and it was still in his rooms when he died.

The sitter's expression has occupied art historians for five centuries. Ours is easier to read. She wants something, and she is prepared to wait.

After the original in the Louvre.
